DJ Shadow

Last night Lucy and I went to the Empire Events Center in Sacramento to see DJ Shadow. It was supposedly sold out but there wasn't that many people there. Security was very tight and there were a lot of underagers there, thus relegating the drinkers to the bar area. It was nearly the same show we saw a while back, at the University of California, Berkley, I believe.

One of the coolest things was this guy that had a shirt on, that had a set of equalizer bars on it, that were sound sensitive and lit up to the music. I thought that was rad! ;)

They had an 80s show immediately after, but we left proptly when DJ Shadow was done. The was a kid there dressed in Michael Jackson Thriller regalea, which was kinda cool. They were going to show Moon Walker on the screens around the club while they were having the 80's dance party.

Did you know that DJ Shadow is from The Bay? Ya. He went to school in Davis and has family here, I am told. He said he hasn't played here in 8 years, but said he wanted to come back. He told the crowd that "this is what you call a secondary" venue or something like that. I thought that was kinda cocky, and not really what you should be saying to your fans, even if it is true. But the rest of the night he was nice and enjoyed himself and made the crowd feel special. He talked about hangin' out at Arden Fair mall while it was still one story (didn't really remember that it was multiple stories until he mentioned it).

Personally, I thought the show rocked. Similiar yes, but the intimate setting allowed me to enjoy it much more without long beer/bathroom lines and Shadow seemed much more relaxed. Security did suck though as did the 7pm start time. Why do Sac clubes have to suck so bad?

My first comment! Oh joy! :D

I was not saying that it wasn't cool, I personally liked it better at this venue than in the cold out-door amphitheater; I was simply indicating that the routine he probably spent a lot of time working on was not all that variable, as were his synchronized images.
