In an act of the most absurd stretch of the imagination the Chinese government has passed a law stating that it is illegal for anyone to reincarnate without the governments permission. This law is targeted at the Tibetans, specifically the Dalai Lama, likely seeking to reincarnate who they see fit to become the next Lama, who is the religious center for the Tibetan Buddhists.
The Dalai Lama says that he refuses to reincarnate in Tibet as long as it is under Chinese control. This may result in the Chinese appointing their own Lama and the exiled Tibetans claiming their own.
This is most sad and disheartening, as an example of the lengths to which some will go blindly down the path of racism and bigotry. It is fear that motivates them, the fear of losing control, and their perception is that their political control comes from their ability to control individual thought. This sounds like an America-fan-boy statement but, they are afraid of freedom (not specifically our freedom), as it would destroy their world.
Sad and pathetic...
