Read about street photography by Michael David Murphy. He gives many suggestions as well as going to great length in his banterings about various ideas and methods pertaining to shooting people on the street (with a camera silly). :p

Also you can read this article, which talks about a guy hired to do photography for National Geographic and the like, and he uses only Olympus point and shoot cameras. Awesome.
