What makes a prius a public threat?

Well... the fact that it's too quite! Of course! Not only does it not contribute as much to air pollution, it doesn't contribute to noise pollution as much either, and this can be a real threat... if you are blind.

Well, apparently there really are people who are upset about this, and they are demanding that something be done about it.

Are you serious?!? The future will hopefully be a clean, quite place on the road, assuming we make it that far. You really expect the auto industry to put little whistles on the car that make noise when it moves, or worse, something that makes a constant or repetitive sound on the outside of the car... just for the 0.4% of the American population that is legally blind (ref)? I don't mean to be heartless, but I watched a blind man get off the bus on my college campus once, and walk straight into a stop light pole. Should lamps posts come with buzzers as well? Granted, a lamp post won't kill you...

Blind people have to overcome a lot of challenges, but is making every car on the road MORE audible something that really needs to be mandated by legislation? Seriously?

One and two
